7 November 2011 No Comment

Facebook has taken over so many lives in recent years as literally millions of users log on everyday to the popular social networking site to socialise with friends and check to see what everyone is up to. However there has been an alarmingly big increase in fraudulent activity associated with the website as most users feel comfortable with putting some of their most personal details online. Indian Realtime’s technology section has outlined some useful tips in how to protect your private information while still remaining open and friendly on the Facebook network.

Some of the tips that it mentions is to associate your mobile phone with Facebook so that you receive an instant notification when someone logs onto your account; if you are not currently accessing Facebook then you will know that someone is unlawfully using your account. Furthermore, it stresses the need to check the apps that have permission to access your account. When you use a Facebook app on your mobile or some of the other applications that post things to your Wall, the network keeps a record of this and it is useful to check what apps have permission to use your account to see if there is any malicious activity going on.
